Cable TV Without The Commercials - We Wish

Cable TV is said to be in the state of decline while it tries to hold its grip on life in the United States. The cable companies are glad to see this is an election year, especially when the Obama Administration has set a goal of $1 Billion for their re-election bid - many believe they'll need at least that much to overcome Obama's record - for which I agree. Now then, I'd like to talk about all these political commercials, actually all the commercials regardless of advertiser because there has been something interesting in the news lately.

In an article titled; "Sulky TV networks claim skipping commercials is illegal," which appeared on MSNBC (dot) com on May 27, 2012 it shows the absurdity of cable TV. In the piece it stated;

"Fox, NBC, and CBS are upset at Dish Network for providing a digital video recorder with an "Auto Hop" commercial-skipping feature. Now they tell a court that skipping commercials while watching a recorded show is illegal, a similar suit worked in 2002. The networks didn't win the case, but ReplayTV, went broke fighting the suit. The suit doesn't touch on the legality of going to the bathroom during a commercial, but there's plenty of time for that argument as the court case battles on."

Now for my expert view and opinion on this - so listen up Kimosabe, because you might learn something. First, the FCC granted cable TV the biggest coup in business history, and today nearly every house hold pays over $45 per month for TV which used to be free. Worse, the number of commercials per hour has skyrocketed over the years. Worse, if you are trying to do something else while watching TV and split your time, it's hard to concentrate when the show you are watching goes to commercial break, and they turn up the volume on you.

They don't bother to tell you that when you sign up for it, but there is nothing you can do once you've signed up for a year's contract. If you switch stations, there is a penalty, and the other cable stations now are doing the same thing. If you get an auto recorder which fast-forwards the commercials, the cable company on their near monopoly because advertisers realize no one wants to watch that many commercials, so they don't.

This is why social media, and Internet advertising is sending the cable companies to an early industry grave, just like the newspaper sector. May I ask; whose fault is that? The cable companies have taken advantage of the consumers for so long now, they assume we don't matter, much the same as the politicians running those ads during this election year I might add. Please consider all this and think on it.
